Task Management
Sensei strongly recommends the use of external execution tools to manage work and tasks for various project initiatives. This allows your teams to work in the tools they choose, and then synchronize the tasks into Sensei IQ for visibility in the Insights reports and other areas of the tool.
In the subsequent pages, you'll find resources that describe the process for setting up and using the project and task metadata sync from the various supported external execution tools.
The process is farily straightforward and can be customized to meet the needs of your organization if you have unqiue data fields that require sync into Sensei IQ.
To utilize project and task sync, you'll need:
- Access to the data in the external execution tool (permissions to read the data from the specified endpoint)
- Table(s) in Dataverse to hold the data once it is synced into Sensei IQ
- Dataflows (these are the sync engines for each external system)
- External System records (these specify the criteria like icon, url, type for the external system)
- Metadata Mapping records (these specify the names of the external sync table columns and which corresponding Sensei IQ columns you want the data mapped to)
- Plugin Sdk Steps (these handle the update and creation of the records once the dataflow syncs in data)
For all of our supported external systems (one of each: Project Online, Project for the web, JIRA, DevOps, Planner), we provide:
- Set of Sync tables
- Dataflow templates (on the pages below - not needed for Planner)
- External System records
- Default Metadata Mapping records
- Plugin Sdk steps
Additional supported systems or custom systems can be added, please work with your Sensei engagement lead if you have this requirement.
